Every day at least 10 people ask us the same thing. The conversation usually goes like this:
- Zeero, hello!
- Hi, my battery is at 83%, do you think I should replace it?
Now we’ll show you the hidden setting that answers the question “Is 81–85–87% Battery Health okay?” directly.
Apple say that anything above 80% is a “healthy battery”, but reality is often different.
If your phone lags with basic tasks, restarts and shuts down on its own, or heats up out of nowhere, Battery Health means nothing.
Instead of obsessing over percentages, there’s one very accurate metric that tells the whole truth: the number of cycles (Cycle Count). But before we show you what to look for, let’s see what cycles actually are.
⚡ What exactly is a charge cycle?
The first thing you need to understand is this: one cycle is not just one time you plug into the charger.
You complete a cycle when you use up 100% of the battery’s capacity, no matter whether that’s in one go or over two days.
Example: If today you drain 50% and charge the phone back to 100%, and tomorrow you drain another 50% – that counts as one single cycle, not two.
iPhone batteries are designed for 500 full cycles. Once you pass that limit, nothing is guaranteed anymore.
🔍 How to see the cycles on your iPhone
Think of the battery as a car engine. The Maximum Capacity percentage is like the car’s exterior – it can look shiny while the engine has a million kilometres on it. The cycles are the real mileage.
Here’s how to see them:
For iPhone 15 series and newer:
-
Open Settings > Battery.
-
Tap Battery Health.
-
See Cycle Count at the very bottom.
For iPhone 14 series and older:
-
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security.
-
Tap Analytics & Improvements. (Make sure “Share iPhone Analytics” is turned on).
-
Tap Analytics Data.
-
Scroll down and find a file named Analytics-202... (pick the one with the most recent date).
-
Open the file and use search to find the text:
BatteryCycleCount.
🧠 Zeero experts’ opinion:
-
Under 300 cycles: The battery is great. If it’s draining fast, it’s more likely that some app is using too much power or there’s a software bug in iOS.
-
300 - 400 cycles: You’re entering the wear zone. You’ll notice that the days when you can use the phone on a single charge are getting fewer and fewer.
-
400 - 500 cycles: It’s a good idea to plan time for a replacement soon. You’re approaching the end of the guaranteed period in which the battery works without random shutdowns, swelling, and overheating.
-
Over 500 cycles: The battery is chemically exhausted. Whatever the settings say, it’s time for a replacement if you don’t want freezes, unexpected shutdowns and restarts, or even swelling.
So where are you at? If it’s time for a replacement, give us a call:

😵 Why does battery health actually drop?
Now that you know the cycles, you need to understand the chemistry too. Every iPhone comes with a lithium‑ion battery. It’s a consumable – it’s designed to wear out and be thrown away. There is no way to preserve such a battery forever and never replace it.
When cycles add up, the battery doesn’t just lose capacity; its internal resistance goes up. That means it struggles to deliver power quickly to the processor. That’s why an old battery can make even a powerful iPhone feel super slow (so‑called throttling), even if it says you have 85% health.
🔬 So let’s answer the question. Is 85% Battery Health okay?
People ask us this a hundred times a day. They see the number and don’t know what to think. Here’s how we look at these figures:
-
96% - 100% (Top condition): The battery is like new. If your phone is draining fast, the problem is almost certainly software-related.
-
91% - 95% (Normal): This is standard after a few months of use. No need to panic, the phone is working optimally.
-
86% - 90% (Some wear): You may not feel any slowdown yet, but you’re definitely looking for a charger earlier in the evening. This is standard for a 1–2 year old phone.
-
81% - 85% (Think about replacing): Here’s your answer. Is 85% okay? No, this is often the beginning of the end. This is usually where problems start – the phone freezes or stutters when you push it. We recommend replacing it as soon as possible.
-
Below 80% (Replace immediately): You’re probably already seeing a “Service” message. The battery has chemically degraded and can cause sudden shutdowns, restarts, loss of photos, or swelling.

🔋 When to replace the battery: Watch the symptoms, not just the numbers
Sometimes iOS’s assessment lags behind reality. Even if it says “85% Battery Health”, seek help if you notice these issues:
-
The Freezing Effect (Throttling): Does the phone stutter while you scroll Instagram? iOS deliberately slows the processor so the phone doesn’t shut down from the weaker power supply that can’t give it all the energy it needs.
-
Sudden shutdowns: Does the phone die at 20% or 30%? That’s a voltage crash. The battery thinks it has power, but physically can’t deliver it.
-
Jumping percentages: You plug it in at 10% and it instantly jumps to 40%? That’s a bad sign for the battery’s electronics and shows it no longer behaves predictably and you can’t rely on the information it gives you.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Fire hazard
While you’re looking at the phone, inspect it physically too. If the screen looks even slightly raised or separated from the frame, or if you notice a burnt smell:
🚩🚩 STOP IMMEDIATELY. 🚩🚩
This is a swollen battery. The gases inside have expanded and the battery is now a fire hazard.
-
🚩 DO NOT press on the screen to “push it back in”. First, because it won’t work, and second, because you risk damaging the display as well.
-
🚩 DO NOT charge it. There’s no telling whether the battery will swell even more and crack the display or catch fire.
-
🚩 DO NOT try to open it yourself. Puncturing a swollen battery usually leads to immediate ignition that cannot be put out with water and starts in just a second. The fumes are also toxic and under no circumstances should they be inhaled.
Bring it to us immediately for safe disposal of the old battery and a quality replacement with a new one.

Of course, you can find cheap battery replacement kits online for €20 or some “deal” on OLX. It’s tempting to save money, but with our 15 years of experience we’ve seen how a simple repair turns into a financial disaster.
That’s why a professional repair shop is the only logical choice:
-
The Mystery Battery Risk: If a kit costs €15–20 at retail, the real cost of the battery inside is almost always €1 to €2. These are usually low‑grade cells (B‑grade) and are literally the factory’s trash.
-
The reality: Even if you install it perfectly and don’t make a single mistake, these knock‑offs die quickly. In the best case, after 2–3 months you’ll be charging twice a day again. Worse, these iPhone batteries have poor protection and the risk of swelling or catching fire while you sleep is very real.
-
-
The One Slip Rule: Inside an iPhone everything is spaced just millimetres apart with microscopic precision. One slip with the screwdriver can cut the display cable, damage the Face ID sensor, or tap the board where it shouldn’t and the phone may not power on at all.
-
The risk: You save €25 on a battery, but if you cut the screen cable, you suddenly pay over €300 for a new original display. Face ID components are also paired to the motherboard – if you break them, that’s the end of face recognition forever, unless you’re willing to pay on average 50% of the phone’s price for new Face ID.
-
-
The OLX Seller vs. a Real Warranty: When you buy a part from a random online profile, the “warranty” usually lasts only until the moment you hand over the money. If the battery swells a week later, they’ll simply stop answering your calls and you’ll have neither a receipt nor any proof with which to claim your rights.
-
Our promise: At Zeero we use only tested, high-quality cells that meet factory standards. More importantly, we give a 6‑month warranty that we actually honour. If anything happens, you know where the repair shop is and that we’ll pick up the phone every time.
-
-
Professional Insurance: Mistakes at home don’t always show up right away. You might slightly pinch a cable and the phone will start restarting on its own. You’ll think it’s the battery, but in reality you’ve damaged the main power line.
-
Accountability: If you break it, you pay. If we make a mistake (no matter how unlikely), we fix it at our expense.
-
When you come to Zeero, you’re not just buying a battery. You’re buying the peace of mind that your device and the photos on it will come back to you exactly as they were.
